American Muslim Community Foundation is hosting the National Zakat Fund for qualified individuals to apply through a case management system at Modern Zakat.

Zakat can be given to eight categories of individuals as outlined in the Qur’an (9:60):
1. The poor: al-fuqara, the poor are those who have no assets or means of earning a living.
2. The needy: al-masakin, the people whose earnings do not cover their basic needs.
3. Those in debt: al-ghārimīn, this category includes those who are unable to repay their debts.
4. Zakat administrators: al-aamileen, the people employed to collect, manage, and distribute Zakat.
5. Travelers: ibn-sabil, those who are traveling and unable to return home are eligible for Zakat.
6. In the cause of Allah: fi-sabilillah, individuals engaged in activities that benefit the broader Muslim community.
7. Reconciling hearts: al-mu’allafat al-quloob, Individuals who are inclined towards Islam or those whose hearts need to be softened towards the Muslim community.
8. Freeing slaves: fir-riqab, to help free individuals from slavery or captivity.
