The Power of Collective Giving: How Muslim Women Are Transforming Philanthropy Through Giving Circles

Muslim women gathered in a community wellness program hosted by Olive Community Services, highlighting collective giving and connection.

In today’s philanthropic world—often shaped by large institutions and individual wealth—giving circles offer something radically different: shared purpose, collective voice, and intentional generosity. For Muslim women, this model isn’t just empowering—it’s transformative.

At AMCF (American Muslim Community Foundation), the Women’s Giving Circle embodies this power. Since launching, it has redefined what faith-driven, community-centered giving looks like—turning charity into investment, and donors into changemakers.

What Are Giving Circles—and Why Do They Matter?

Giving circles are one of the fastest-growing philanthropic trends in the U.S., with over 2,500 active groups engaging 150,000+ members and granting more than $1.3 billion.¹

They work because they democratize philanthropy—allowing people from all income levels to participate meaningfully. For underrepresented communities like American Muslims, they offer a space for connection, shared learning, and strategic impact.

Why Giving Circles Matter—Especially for Muslim Women

Faith, justice, and collaboration are at the heart of giving circles. For Muslim women, this model echoes the Qur’anic call to shared responsibility and intentional care.

At AMCF, the Women’s Giving Circle is more than a funding platform. It’s a space for learning, agency, and legacy-building. Together, members vet nonprofits, explore structural inequities, and act as a force for real change.
