Why Dhul Hijjah Is One of the Best Times to Give

Dhul Hijjah is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar—and one of the most spiritually significant times of the year. For Muslims around the world, the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah offer a rare opportunity to deepen our worship, reflect on our blessings, and give generously to those in need.

Whether you’re fulfilling your zakat, offering sadaqah, or supporting causes that align with your values, charitable giving during Dhul Hijjah holds special significance in Islam. It’s also a powerful reminder of how we can strengthen our communities through intentional, faith-based philanthropy.

What Is Dhul Hijjah?

Dhul Hijjah means “The Month of the Pilgrimage.” It is during this sacred month that millions of Muslims make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca—one of the five pillars of Islam. It’s also when we celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorating the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

But even for those not making the journey to Mecca, the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are considered the most blessed days of the year. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”
(Bukhari)

Why Charitable Giving Matters During Dhul Hijjah

Giving during Dhul Hijjah isn’t just encouraged—it’s an opportunity to multiply your rewards. Scholars have long emphasized that zakat and sadaqah offered during these days carry more spiritual weight than at any other time of the year (outside of Laylat al-Qadr).

This is a moment to center our giving around impact. Whether you’re supporting local food security, education, refugee aid, or long-term community development, your generosity during Dhul Hijjah can plant seeds of hope that last well beyond these ten days.
