From Summit to Year-End: Complete Your 2025 Giving Journey

This season started with possibility. At our 2nd Annual Nonprofit Summit for Muslim Nonprofits & Changemakers, hundreds of leaders gathered to explore what’s next for our community. The conversations were ambitious. The energy was real.

Now, with just days left in 2025, it’s time to finish what we started.

If you’ve been meaning to make a year-end charitable contribution—or if you’re looking for a last minute tax deduction—this is your moment. Here’s everything you need to know before December 31.

What the December 31 Deadline Really Means

To claim a charitable contribution on your 2025 taxes, your gift must be completed by midnight on December 31. But “completed” means different things depending on how you give:

Cash or check: Online donations process immediately. Checks are dated when mailed (postmark counts), but we recommend giving yourself a buffer.

Credit card: The date of the charge is what matters, not when you pay your credit card bill. A gift made on December 31 counts for 2025 even if you pay the statement in January.

Donor advised fund contribution: Your DAF must receive the funds by December 31. If you’re transferring securities, start now—stock transfers can take several business days.

Appreciated securities: The transfer must be complete by December 31. Contact your brokerage immediately if you haven’t started—this is the most time-sensitive method.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): The distribution must leave your IRA by December 31. Contact your IRA custodian now to ensure processing time.

Important: If you’re planning a last minute tax deduction through stock transfer or QCD, don’t wait until December 30. Financial institutions have processing times, and a missed deadline means waiting until next year.

Your Year-End Giving Checklist

Not sure where to start? Here’s a simple framework:

☐ Review your 2025 giving: How much have you donated this year? Are you close to exceeding the standard deduction threshold?

☐ Check your portfolio: Do you have appreciated stocks or funds? Donating them directly avoids capital gains tax.

☐ Consider your DAF: If you have a donor advised fund, is it time to add funds? If you don’t have one, could bunching multiple years of giving into 2025 make sense?

☐ Think about your IRA: If you’re 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution might be your most tax-efficient option.

☐ Decide on amount and method: Cash, securities, or DAF contribution? Pick your path and act before the deadline.

No Deadline on Generosity

Here’s the thing about a last minute tax deduction: it only matters if you itemize. For the roughly 90% of taxpayers who take the standard deduction, December 31 is just another day.

If that’s you, don’t let the deadline pressure create artificial urgency. Your gift matters whenever you make it.

In fact, there’s something powerful about giving that isn’t tied to a tax strategy. Monthly giving—$25, $50, or whatever fits your budget—builds sustained support that organizations like AMCF can count on year-round.

One hundred donors at $25/month creates $30,000 in annual, predictable support. That’s not a last minute decision—it’s a commitment to the long game.

Looking Ahead: Ramadan 2026

As 2025 closes, Ramadan 2026 is just a few months away. For many Muslim donors, Ramadan is the most significant giving season of the year—a time when zakat is calculated, sadaqah flows freely, and generosity reaches its peak.

If you start a monthly gift now, you’ll already be in rhythm when Ramadan arrives. Your contributions will have been working for months, supporting the infrastructure of Muslim philanthropy before the season of heightened giving even begins.

And if you fund your donor advised fund before December 31, you’ll have a pool of charitable dollars ready to grant during Ramadan—strategic giving and spiritual giving, working together.

Finish Strong

We started this season with a vision: Muslim nonprofits and donors, working together, building something lasting. At the Summit, we talked about what’s possible. In the weeks since, you’ve shown up—giving, planning, believing in this work.

Now, in these final days of 2025, we have one more chance to invest in the future of Muslim philanthropy.

Whether you’re making a last minute tax deduction before the December 31 deadline or starting a monthly gift that will carry into Ramadan and beyond—thank you. Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for giving with intention.

Let’s finish 2025 strong and enter 2026 ready to do even more together.
